May 16 (Xinhua) -- Albania blames poor driving culture for around three-fourths of its fatal traffic accidents， figures released Monday by the Albanian Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said.


Statistics showed that 74 percent of the fatal accidents in the country were caused by drivers' misconduct， 22 percent by motorcycle or bicycle riders and pedestrians， and the rest due to poor infrastructure conditions.


"Most of the accidents are often caused by excessive speed and alcohol. Until three to four years ago alcohol was the major cause of road accidents，" said Flamur Mullisi， accident specialist at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.


There were 270 fatal accidents in Albania during 2015， compared with 378 in 2010.


It was reported that roughly half a million vehicles are running in the 2.8 million-population Albania， mostly private old second-hand cars.


The average age of the vehicles on Tirana's roads is around 16 years， twice the European average， according to Gani Cupi， deputy manager of Albania's Road Transport Services.
